What causes painful anal growth in 24-year old female?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a female of age 24, height 5 feet 3 inches, and weight 127 lbs (pounds). A pimple-like growth on the anal opening that has been present for a few months started as a small, painful growth and has now kind of grown. I had applied Fusidin cream, but it did not provide any help.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello

Welcome to icliniq.com

I understand your concern and will definitely help you with it.

The symptoms that you have mentioned indicate the possibility of external hemorrhoids (piles). These are due to swollen vascular tissue in the anus. Do not worry; around 75 percent of people suffer from hemorrhoids at some point in their lives. Most of the time, it just appears worse than it actually is.

Early hemorrhoids (initial grade) can be treated by healthy bowel habits and a healthy diet.

What you should aim for is to get rid of constipation and maintain healthy bowel habits. It is a process and will take time. I suggest you make some changes, such as

  1. Do not strain; always respond to nature's call.

  2. Do not sit on the toilet for long hours.

  3. Increase dietary fiber in your meals if you are constipated. Soluble fiber in bananas, papayas, mangoes, etc., helps.

  4. For constipation, psyllium husk (isabgol) is also helpful.

  5. Take a sitz bath when the swelling is external and painful.

  6. Use an ointment (like Shield ointment) containing Phenylephrine, Allantoin, and Hydrocortisone 30 minutes before bowel movement. It will reduce pain and swelling, if any.

  7. Walk for at least 30 minutes regularly; it will help.

I suggest you incorporate these changes at the earliest; otherwise, the condition may worsen over time, and it can bleed as well.

I hope this is clear, and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask.

Do follow up whenever needed.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
