Can periods cause hives and rashes on the skin?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been getting rashes and hives around my chest, neck, arms, stomach, and sometimes upper thighs. It worsens when I scratch it, I try not to scratch it because of that. I have had tiny rashes or hives before but never like this, I have had it for two days now, it comes and goes. It goes down then suddenly flares up. These rashes and hives only really occur when I go to bed. I do not know if it is because of the texture or detergent etc. I also have not had my period yet, and I have heard these are sometimes symptoms of pre-periods. But I do not know, and I know stress can worsen or make you have rashes or hives.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

I read your query and understand your concern. These reactions can be associated with allergies, allergies like food or cosmetics, or soap. Can trigger it, I would suggest you do a skin allergy test. It will help us to know what is causing it. Use herbal soap, and avoid dairy products. The condition is known as eczema. I would suggest you not scratch. Take a tablet of levocetirizine 5 mg once when you get these rashes. Please send me a picture of the rashes. Since when do you have these symptoms? Kindly revert with the answer so that I can suggest you better.

Thank you.
