Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have attached multiple pictures where I have marked with blue and yellow marks. Can you please confirm whether the blue-marked portion is also a hymen that breaks during penetration, or whether it is naturally separate even in a virgin, or whether only the portion up to the yellow mark is joined and breaks?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understood your concern.
I checked and went through the images you uploaded (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity). The yellow line marks the area of the hymen. It usually ruptures during sexual activity or during activities such as cycling, inserting a tampon, or horse riding. An intact or torn hymen is not a sign of virginity.
The blue line marks the opening of the vagina. This may or may not rupture. Usually, after sexual activity, the hymen gets ruptured, which is indicated by the yellow markings.
The hymen is a thin, elastic membrane present at the vaginal opening. It is not a complete seal; it always has an opening to allow menstrual blood to pass. The hymen can stretch or tear due to many normal activities, and its condition does not define virginity.
Hymen status has no medical or moral value. Virginity testing is unscientific and unethical. Hymen rupture does not always cause pain or bleeding. Many women do not bleed at all.
The hymen may be very elastic, already stretched earlier, or cause mild spotting in some cases. Pain is not mandatory.
I hope that this answers your query. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
I just wanted to know whether the blue-marked part is naturally separated on both sides, or whether it is a joint of tissue that breaks or tears after sex, or whether it is joined only up to the yellow mark and not up to the blue-marked part.
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understood your concern.
The blue part is a joint and usually does not tear after sex. It is completely normal. The yellow part is the one that ruptures. It is like an aperture. That is the hymen that ruptures. It is a junction between the outside and inside.
I hope that this answers your query. Kindly follow up if you have any further questions.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
I have attached two pictures where I marked both sides with blue. I am asking whether it is naturally separate on both sides of the skin, or whether it is joined and breaks after insertion, or whether only the portion up to the yellow mark has the skin joined on the top side.
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understood your concern.
I checked and went through the images you uploaded (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity). Yes, the blue marking is naturally separated. The yellow line separates after sex, inserting a tampon, or engaging in daily harmful exercise or activity.
I hope that this answers your query.
Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
Then what is the blue-marked part on the top of the vaginal opening, and how much distance is it attached before it breaks after insertion?
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understood your concern.
I would like to know whether there is any injury in that part, or whether you have pain and bleeding. Also, is there any difficulty while passing urine?
As per your query, that part is the labia minora, which are the inner lips. The blue-marked area is the labia minora. They consist of the clitoris, the urethral opening, and the vaginal opening. The hairless part is the labia minora.
From top to bottom, there is the prepuce, the frenulum of the clitoris, and inside it lies the clitoral bud or clitoris. Below that is the urethra, which is the urine opening, and then the vaginal opening with the hymen or hymenal tag, followed by the fourchette. Below this, at around two centimeters distance, is the anal opening.
I hope that this answers your query.
Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
I have uploaded multiple images with different colours marked. Can you please let me know up to which point the hymen is attached and which part breaks during the first insertion?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understood your concern.
I have seen all the uploaded pictures (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity). The hymen is not one point. It is a circumferential area. The pointers you placed are all points. Just join all those points. That will be the hymen. It is like a curtain. I cannot upload the picture, or else I would mark the said area of the hymen. It starts from the purple line, reaches the orange, and then goes to the last picture. I hope you understand.
Kindly follow up if you have any doubts.

Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
Can you please tell me, using the colours like orange, black, or blue that I have marked, which part is attached and which part breaks after insertion? Or are all the marked parts attached and break after insertion?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understood your concern.
All the parts that you marked make the hymen. It is the aperture, the opening. After insertion, its remnants remain. The aperture increases a little, but it is always there.
Kindly follow up if you have any doubts.
I hope that this answers your query.
Thank you.
