What are the causes of jelly-like discharge on periods with implant?

Hello doctor,

I have Implannon, and I started my period two days ago. When I woke up this morning, the pad had jelly like discharge; when I looked closer, they looked like thousands of eggs. I have never had this before, and I am so scared that I have just become infertile. Some are red, and others are yellowish-orange in color. When I used the bathroom, more came out on the toilet paper. It has a smell to it, but there is no pain. Please help.

I understand your concern.

I do not see any reason for you to worry about it. That what you see is not eggs. Let me explain what you are experiencing and seeing. Implanon is a subcutaneous implant with a high dose of progesterone hormone. This hormone suppresses the body's regular hormonal cycles, so follicles are maturing, so there is no ovulation. All the eggs in the ovaries are dormant till the implant is in the body. The suppression also gradually makes the inner lining of the uterus thicker daily. So you may have spotting or pinkish discharge on and off and periods like breakthrough bleeding or expulsion of thick dark red or brownish or blackish fleshy masses or clots three to four times a year. This is only the inner lining of the uterus that is coming out. Even if you want to or if you take all the hormones to cause ovulation, only 10 to 20 eggs can come out at a time. Your ovaries at this age of 21 years will have around one to two lakh eggs. So do not worry at all about your future fertility. You are conserving all your eggs without ovulation or periods, so relax.

A jelly feel is due to the thick mucoid white or yellowish discharge and fleshy masses of the inner lining of the uterus; the orange and yellowish color is due to the release and altered blood. Progesterone hormone will raise body temperature. I suggest you get histopathological reaction tests. The report will be shedding endometrium with signs of the secretory phase. I assure you that you are absolutely fine and will have excellent fertility potential when the Implanon is removed.
