Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I had Implanon put in my arm, and my period has become utterly irregular. I have been spotting for more than 20 days and do not know how to make it stop. Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Irregular and prolonged bleeding is a common side effect of Implanon (Etonogestrel implant), particularly during the first few months after insertion. If the spotting persists or becomes bothersome, several management options are available. Short-term use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as Mefenamic acid, can help reduce bleeding.
Alternatively, hormonal interventions, including a short course of estrogen therapy (such as combined oral contraceptive pills containing ethinyl estradiol and progestin), may help regulate the bleeding pattern. It is advisable to consult a healthcare provider to determine the most appropriate treatment based on individual health status and medical history.
I hope this helps.
Kindly revert so I can assist you further.
Thank you.
