Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 35-year-old woman with IBS-D, and I am at my wit's end. I am a teacher, and I am constantly running to the bathroom during class. It is so embarrassing! I have had to cancel field trips, missed staff meetings, and even had an accident during a parent-teacher conference. I am afraid I will lose my job. Stress makes it worse, but my job is stressful. I have tried probiotics, fiber supplements, and even some weird herbal stuff. Nothing helps. Is there any hope? What about fecal transplants– are they safe? Also, could this turn into something more serious? I am scared to date anyone. Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
I am here to help you with your symptoms of IBS (irritable bowel syndrome- a gastrointestinal disorder characterized by abdominal pain, bloating, and changes in bowel habits like diarrhea, constipation, or both). I can understand the impact of your disease, which has disturbed your life.
First of all, you must know that IBS is due to a stressful life plus anxiety. Before going to treat your abdominal symptoms, you need to treat your stress and anxiety, which are the main triggers of your disease. When your stress and anxiety improve, your abdominal symptoms improve by themselves.
However, your abdominal symptoms also need treatment until your psychosocial life is not improved. I will help you to cope with both of your concerns after taking a proper history of your previous treatment and symptoms. I will be waiting for your reply to help you further to get you to heal as early as possible.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards.
