Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am an 18-year-old female, and six weeks ago, I underwent laparoscopic surgery to remove my appendix. During surgery, there was burst of ovarian cysts, and a significant amount of free fluid in my lower abdominal area was also addressed during the surgery. The reason for my hospital admission was severe pain on my left side, which eventually spread to my right side, leading to the removal of my appendix. After the surgery, I experienced minor difficulty sitting up and staying awake. Additionally, I had temporary bladder dysfunction, which caused me to be unable to use my bladder for a few days. Currently, I still have a weak bladder. However, despite the time that has passed (six weeks), the pain has worsened considerably. It is characterized as a sharp pain that lasts for an extended period. Eating and taking deep breaths seem to trigger the pain. Finding a comfortable position is challenging, and at times, the pain is so intense that it brings me to my knees. Regarding medical history, I have a previous complaint of sharp pain in the lower right abdominal area. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to iCliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

I understand the difficulties you have been facing. Before providing any advice, I would require some additional information:

  1. Please upload your medical hospital records. You can find instructions on how to do so here:(https://www.icliniq.com/articles/diseases-and-disorders-common-medical-conditions/why-should-you-upload-images-and-files-in-online-medical-queries)

  2. What were the findings in the pathological report of the removed appendix? Was there a confirmed problem with the appendix, or was it removed due to right-sided pain?

  3. How is your ovarian health? Have you recently undergone an ultrasound examination of your ovaries? If not, I recommend getting one done.

  4. If your pain has worsened, it could be related to your ovaries rather than the appendix or a post-operative complication (though less likely if you are not experiencing fever, can eat and drink normally, and are passing gas and stools). What has your doctor told you about the cause of the pain? Have they prescribed any medication? If so, what medication and how frequently do you take it?

  5. Is there any correlation between your pain and your menstrual periods? How are your periods otherwise? Are they irregular, accompanied by excessive pain, or have heavy flow?

  6. Do you have any allergies? Are you currently taking any medications? Are you experiencing any mood disturbances, such as depression or low self-esteem?

Please discuss these issues with your doctor and provide the requested information.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.
