Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I underwent a laser treatment two days ago. My next session is scheduled in three weeks. I am using a night cream daily. Can I continue using this cream while undergoing the laser treatment? Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com
I completely understand your concern. After a laser treatment, it is very natural to worry about whether your regular skincare products are safe, especially when the skin is still healing.
Since you had a laser session just two days ago, your skin is still in the recovery phase, even if it appears calm on the surface. During this period, the skin barrier is more sensitive and reactive.
Please pause the use of night cream while you are undergoing laser treatment. Although it does not contain active ingredients such as exfoliating agents or retinoids, it does contain strong antioxidants like alpha arbutin and kojic acid. These can irritate post-laser skin and increase the risk of redness, burning, pigmentation, or delayed healing.
For the first seven days after each laser session, follow a very simple and soothing skincare routine only. Use a gentle cleanser, a bland moisturizer suitable for sensitive or post-procedure skin, and a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 to 50 during the day. Sunscreen is extremely important after laser treatment, as even brief sun exposure can lead to post-inflammatory pigmentation.
Once the skin has completely settled, typically about seven to ten days after the laser session, and only if there is no redness, burning, or peeling, you may safely resume using the glutathione cream. Avoid all active products during the healing period, including whitening creams, retinoids, acids, scrubs, peels, and facials, unless specifically advised by your dermatologist.
Do not wax, bleach, thread, or shave the treated area until your doctor confirms it is safe. Also, avoid steam, saunas, very hot showers, and heavy sweating for a few days after treatment.
Avoid touching, picking, or rubbing the treated area. Keep makeup minimal or avoid it completely for a few days. If makeup is used, choose gentle, non-comedogenic products. Stay well hydrated, eat a balanced diet, and get adequate rest, as these help support skin healing from within.
I appreciate your effort toward maintaining healthy skin. I hope this answers your query. Please feel free to share your valuable feedback to help us improve patient care.
Thank you.
