What causes swollen veins and spots in both armpits?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

This morning, I noticed what appears to be swollen veins and spots in both of my armpits. I have not experienced any other accompanying symptoms. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for reaching out, and I understand your concern.

Regarding the images you provided (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), they are not entirely clear. However, you mentioned the presence of vein-like structures, and veins typically do not swell in this area. It is possible that the issue may be related to a bacterial infection, as infections are relatively common in the armpit region.

If the swelling feels palpable and hard, it could be a lump due to infection, which is likely to resolve with time. If you suspect it may be related to veins, I suggest you undergo an ultrasound examination to better understand the situation.

For the time being, I would suggest the following:

  1. Take one 500 mg tablet of Paracetamol after a meal whenever you experience pain.
  2. Take one 10 mg tablet of Levocetirizine before bedtime.
  3. Use ointment Soframycin (Framycetin sulfate) twice a day for three days.

Consult your specialist doctor, talk to them, and then take the medications. These measures should help reduce the issue, and if it does not improve or if you have any further concerns, please feel free to reach out to me at any time.

Thank you.
