What medicated creams can I use to treat my tan and melasma?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have dull, oily skin with some adult acne. After the doctor’s consultation, I started using Faceclin for acne, but my face and body color vary from tan and melasma in my jawline. I wanted a daily matte moisturizer with Niacinamide but could not find one. Please advise.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read the query, and I can understand your concern.

I suggest the following:

  1. Do not use hair oil or any sticky cream on your face.

  2. Avoid oily food, chocolate, and milk products.

  3. Avoid dust and use sunscreen above 30 SPF (sun protection factor).

  4. Do not rub any cream on your face.

  5. Do not use any steroid creams.

  6. Facewash or soap is not useful as a treatment.

  7. Do not touch acne, and avoid pressing it.

Continue treatment for at least one month. I suggest you use Clindamycin gel all over the face in the morning as a preventive and curative measure. Adapalene gel (Adalene, Differin) can be used over acne at night. Take tablet Doxycycline 100 mg once a day. Consult a specialist doctor, talk to them, and then take the medication. For melasma and tanning, I suggest the following:

  1. Avoid direct sunlight exposure as much as you can.

  2. Wear sunglass and caps, and cover the exposed parts of the body all the time.

  3. Use sunscreen thrice at 10, 12, and 3 o'clock all over the face.

  4. Sunscreen SPF should be around 50.

  5. Use anti-pigmentation cream like Kojic acid, Hydroquinone, or Depiwhite cream (Hydroquinone, Kojic acid, and Ascorbyl Methylsilanol Pectinate) over pigmented parts.

  6. If tanning is deep and too much, the ideal treatment is glycolic acid peels. Sittings of six to eight peels must be required.

  7. Never stop sunscreen, even if tanning goes off.

For treatment, I suggest using Suncros soft gel (Cyclopentasiloxane, Zinc oxide) as sunscreen, Kojiglo gel (Kojic acid Dipalmitate, Arbutin, and Octinoxate) on marks and tanned skin, and Moisturex soft lotion (Urea, Lactic acid, and Propylene glycol) is a good moisturizer.

I hope this will help you.

Thank you.
