What are the early symptoms of breast cancer?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a postmenopausal woman and I am worried about the possibility of developing breast cancer. What are the symptoms of breast cancer that I should look out for and how can I detect it early? Also, what are the further steps I should be taking?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

If you have a family history of breast or colon cancer, it is important to be cautious. Any abnormalities found in mammography or ultrasound scans should raise concern. You can also get a blood test for the BRCA gene (breast cancer gene) to assess your risk of breast cancer. Symptoms to watch for include lumps in the breast that cause pain, abnormal nipple discharge, or ulcers. If none of these symptoms are present, you can remain stress-free.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
