Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 40-year-old woman. I am having a continuous period bleeding for 20 days. I am worried about my health. Please tell me;
How to stop bleeding?
Is this a hormonal imbalance?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
At the age of 40, one common reason is hormonal imbalance, especially during perimenopause, when ovulation may not occur regularly. When this happens, your progesterone levels fall, and estrogen continues to stimulate the uterine lining, leading to prolonged or heavy bleeding. So hormones can be the cause, but they are not the only possibility. Other causes can be,
Uterine fibroids or polyps.
Adenomyosis.
Thyroid disorders.
Infections.
Endometrial hyperplasia (thickening of the uterine lining).
I advise you of the following tests for diagnosis;
Pelvic ultrasound.
Blood tests to determine hemoglobin level, thyroid profile, and hormone levels.
Treatment depends on the cause. You can consult a gynecologist regarding this. Your possible treatment options will be;
Hormonal therapy (progesterone or combined hormonal tablets).
Tranexamic acid to reduce bleeding.
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are used for pain and to reduce inflammation.
Iron supplements if anemia is present.
Treatment of the underlying condition (such as fibroid management or thyroid correction).
I hope this information helps you.
Feel free to ask further queries.
Thank you.
