Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I want to delay the period as I have important exams next month. I have only delayed it once, for an important exam. For this, I took Norethisterone 5 mg twice daily for five days. Now I have to delay it for two weeks.

  1. Can I take those medicines again in much less time?
  2. If not, what should I take?
  3. Will there be any side effects?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. I read through your history.

Delaying periods once in a while is fine. However, repeated doses of these medicines are not much suggested since they alter the cycle for a month or two, but you got your periods one month ago, so I suppose your cycle might have got back on track. Delaying periods for some days is fine. A delay of 15 days may lead to heavy bleeding later, so make sure your hemoglobin is within normal limits.

You can start taking the same medicine once a day, two days before the expected date of the period. Then stop according to the date you wish to delay periods. Periods will come after some days. Hopefully, after one to two menstrual cycle alterations, your cycle will be again regularized.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Should I continue taking the same tablet twice daily as prescribed previously? Additionally, I would like to inquire about the duration for which it is safe to consume these tablets. My menstrual cycle typically lasts 26 days.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Take the same tablet once a day. One week of medication is acceptable. You can extend it to 15 days. Please note that prolonged use may result in heavier bleeding and disturbance in menstrual cycles for one to two months.

I hope your queries are resolved, and any further queries are welcome.

Thank you.
