Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I took Meprate for five days. My period was supposed to start. I have been experiencing brown to pinkish discharge.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
It sounds like your period is delayed after taking Meprate (Medroxyprogesterone acetate), and you are now experiencing brown to pinkish discharge instead of a full period.
Possible reasons for delay and discharge:
Hormonal imbalance from Meprate.
Meprate is a progesterone hormone that helps induce a period.
Sometimes, it can delay your period or cause light spotting or discharge instead of a full flow.
Breakthrough bleeding:
If your body is adjusting to hormonal changes, you may experience brown or pink discharge instead of a normal period.
Early pregnancy (unlikely but possible):
If there was unprotected sex in your last cycle, pregnancy is a possibility.
Implantation bleeding can appear as a pinkish or brown discharge.
Since it has been several weeks, a pregnancy test would be accurate now.
PCOS or other hormonal issues:
If you have polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), thyroid issues, or high prolactin levels, these could delay your period even after stopping Meprate.
What you should do next:1. Take a pregnancy test – If negative, wait a few more days for your period.
2. Monitor the discharge – If it turns into a period, it is likely just a hormonal delay.
3. If no period within a week, consult your doctor – You may need further evaluation or medications to regulate your cycle.
I hope this helps.
Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.
Thank you.
