Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 30-year-old mother of a 13-month-old baby. Lately, I have been really worried about the food I give my baby. I try to keep everything clean, but I am concerned that the packaging might have tiny bits of plastic that could get into the food. I have also heard that even the water we drink might have microplastics. Can you help me understand if this could be harmful to my daughter?
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern.
It is natural to feel concerned about your baby's nutrition and safety. While it is important to maintain cleanliness and food safety practices, the risk of contamination from microplastics in food packaging is generally low and regulated by health authorities. However, to minimize exposure, you can opt for fresh, whole foods when possible, and avoid heating plastic containers in microwaves or leaving them in the sun. Additionally, using glass or stainless steel containers for storage and feeding can be a safer alternative. As for water, using a reliable filtration system can help reduce the presence of microplastics.
I hope you find this helpful.
Thank you.
