Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I accidentally took Mifepristone thinking it was an emergency contraceptive three to four days after unprotected sex. Should I take an actual emergency contraceptive, or should I avoid taking any more medication? What should I do next? Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Mifepristone is not the same as an emergency contraceptive. If you took a low dose (10 to 25 mg), it might have some contraceptive effect, but its effectiveness is not well studied compared to regular emergency contraceptives.
If you took the 200 mg dose (which is used for medical abortion), it is unlikely to work effectively as emergency contraception and may cause irregular bleeding, nausea, or abdominal cramps.
What you should do next:
I hope this helps.
Kindly revert so I can assist you further.
Thank you.
