Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I need urgent consultation with ENT regarding a throat problem. I cannot speak, and my voice is not coming back. It looks like a side effect of the Moderna vaccine. I took Tylenol, a few throat puffers and tried home remedies. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Thanks for reaching out. I know it can be quite alarming when you have problems with your voice all of a sudden. This can be due to a variety of reasons, and as you are rightly worried, very rarely can be a drug or vaccine-related side-effect, and most of the time, it may be unrelated as well. I can help you better and accurately diagnose and treat the condition if you can provide me with a detailed history of the symptoms, like-onset, duration, other throat-related symptoms, any eating or drinking issues, any stroke or CVA (cerebrovascular accident), any history of similar complaints in the past, smoking and alcohol history, any history of throat cancer or surgery in the past. Have you undergone any other medications or treatments? Is there any cough, cold, fever, throat pain? Any history of increased voice use, or does your occupation and hobbies needs it, especially singing or public speech? Any personal or work-related physical or emotional stress factors? For the time being, I would suggest voice rest and vocal hygiene, and the sound should recover itself in a few days. Differential diagnosis is muscle tension dysphonia or laryngopharyngeal reflux, and cancer should be ruled out. Investigations include flexible laryngoscopy if indicated based on full history.

Kindly review at the earliest with a detailed history as discussed to rule out any more sinister causes.

Regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
