Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have mole-like marks on my skin, and someone told me to use Niacinamide to fade them away. Should I use Niacinamide for the marks?
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I completely understand your concern.
Based on your given history, they are either Dermatosis papulosa nigra (DPNs) or Melanocytic nevi. Regarding your query that niacinamide is effective in controlling moles, the answer is no; they can improve your skin texture and control oil, but for moles, you need either topical retinoids or electrocautery or cryotherapy.
For me to give you an exact diagnosis, I need a clear picture of your moles, and I want you to tell me the answers to these questions.
Is the mole palpable or flat?
Is there any stalk with a mole?
Do you have obesity or diabetes?
Is it just on the face or in the armpits and neck too?
Do you experience any seasonal variations, like it gets prominent in summer and gets better in the winter?
Once I get the answers and a clear picture, I will be able to guide you to the exact diagnosis and treatment for it. Meanwhile, please use sun protection, as many moles are related to sunlight, and they can increase; use protection to control them.
I hope my answer is clear to you, and if you need any details at any time, I am here and at your service.
Thank you.
