Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
After taking tablets for MTP, the bleeding stopped after one hour and since then there has been only spotting, and no proper flow has occurred. I have cramps and pain and only spotting during urination. Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Be assured that all your healthcare records are in safe hands. I am here to guide you through your query.
I need more information before answering your query. Which tablets have you taken? You have to take two types of tablets for normal medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) namely Mifepristone 200 mg tablets and three tablets of Misoprostol 200 mcg. Usually, you have to take two Mifepristone tablets on the first day and then after 48 hours, you have to take three Misoprostol tablets.
You will experience bleeding after taking all the above tablets (bleeding starts approximately after four to five hours) and it will last for four to seven days. So, please let me know about the following:
If you are more than nine weeks pregnant, then you have to go for dilation and curettage (D and C). After taking the pills, experiencing pain and cramps during the first two to three days is normal. If you have passed seven days of taking the pills and still have pain and cramps, then there are chances of retained products inside. If that is the case, then you have to take a scan.
I hope this helps. Do get back if you have any further queries.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
My last period started in the second week of last month and lasted for four days. My next period is due in the second week of next month as mine is a 28-day cycle, but since I never got my period this month, I took a pregnancy test, and it was positive. So, pregnancy in any case was not more than four weeks.
I bought an MTP Kit from my local chemist and on the same day, I took one tablet of Mifepristone as instructed in the kit. The next day, I took one tablet of Misoprostol vaginally and bleeding started in the next two hours but stopped after 45 minutes or so. As per the instructions, the next day, I took the remaining three tablets vaginally (after almost 16 hours), but it came out with a reddish-brown discharge after a couple of hours.
My problem is that:
What tablet should I take or what food should I eat so that bleeding happens properly? Please help.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Glad to have you back.
Now, you are undergoing the process of abortion. You have properly taken all the pills. Were any blood clots passed out in the first 45 minutes of bleeding (this is not mandatory)? If so, then most of the products would have gone by that time itself. So, further bleeding may not be similar to your normal periods, and the products usually get eliminated in the form of reddish-brown discharge.
Pain in the abdomen can be due to uterine spasms, and it is normal as it helps to expel the products. So do not take any medicine for this pain (if necessary, you can take Paracetamol tablets alone).
Discharge during urination is also a product of abortion only because during urination, the lower abdominal pressure increases, which is why, more discharge comes during urination. This also helps in abortion. Fever is expected and it is due to Misoprostol tablets. It will go by 48-72 hours (if fever persists for more than one week, then there could be a chance of infection). Less appetite and nausea are normal, and it is due to uterine contraction and similar changes. To confirm whether your abortion is complete, you have to do a scan after one week.
I hope you got answers to all the queries that you had. Please follow up if needed.
Thank you.
