What is the reason for loss of muscle mass?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 52-year-old man. I did hormone tests because my muscle mass has reduced a lot in the last couple of years, my fat has gone up and I have felt a lot of anxiety. There must be a trigger for it so I decided to look at my hormones. My progesterone and estradiol are very low. My testosterone seemed low but is within what is considered normal thresholds for my age.

Please help.

Hello,

Thanks for reaching out to iCliniq.

I am very sorry about your medical condition. Do not worry, I am here to take care of you.

Regarding your symptoms and the picture (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity) you sent, I believe you have senile muscle atrophy with possible acute panic attacks. During an advanced age above 50 years, all your hormones will be gradually reduced and they can only be replaced by possible hormone replacement therapy at the hospital. Please take one tablet of Atorvastatin 10 mg four times a day for the high-fat deposit and please eat a lot of protein-rich meals to build up your muscle structure. Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them, and take medications with their consent.

I hope this helps, schedule another appointment for follow-up via chat, phone, or video consultation.

Thank you.
