Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My partner has TAH as a bridge for transplant reasons. Before the first one was installed, she had several ICDs that kept malfunctioning and shocked her unwarranted and, at times, severely enough to arrest her heart. The TAH that the doctors are using for her is AbioCor or AbioMed. I read online that they do not make that anymore and stopped progression on AbioCor II. She is abroad, and I can only find one made by SynCardia that is approved. On that note, these TET coils malfunction like the ICDs. Is it possible that her body has a problem with electrical systems? Is AbioCor TAH allowed to be used?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concerns. Regarding ICD (implantable cardioverter-defibrillator) shocks, consult a cardiologist for ICD evaluation and replace it if malfunctioning. AbioCor is used nowadays also, but SynCardia is FDA (food and drug administration) approved. Getting a human heart transplant as soon as possible is best to get rid of a mechanical heart and its complications. Otherwise, an artificial heart also can last for years. Hope this helps. Thank you and take care.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
