Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am concerned about ovarian cancer and would like more information. Can you provide insights into the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer, as well as any risk factors associated with developing this type of neoplasm?
Additionally, are there recommended screenings or preventive measures to detect ovarian cancer early, and what are the available treatment options for those diagnosed with this condition?
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I went through your query.
The ovaries are located inside the abdominal cavity, which has a lot of space. The implication of this is that by the time you start having symptoms and signs of ovarian cancer, the cancer is already advanced. So, the only reliable way to check for this is to do at least a yearly transvaginal ultrasound scan to check for any abnormality in your ovaries if you have risk factors or check for tumor markers.
Symptoms include an increase in abdominal size despite weight loss, early satiety, and jaundice.
There are several risk factors, including a family history of ovarian cancer, nulliparity (not giving birth to children), and exposure to certain carcinogens like talcum powder.
Treatment depends on the stage of the cancer at the time of diagnosis. Early stages are somehow curable, mainly by surgery, while late stages are either treated through chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or hormonal therapy. The prognosis (chances of achieving a cure and survival from the disease) is poor.
I hope it helps.
