How to effectively treat my right ovarian cyst?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 24 years of age and weigh around 132 pounds. I have a simple right ovarian cyst. I have been experiencing pain on the right side of my abdomen for the past 1 year and 7 months. The pain usually worsens when my menstrual period is about to start. During these episodes, I find it difficult to stand up straight. I also experience pain during sexual intercourse, sudden episodes of weakness, and pain throughout my abdomen when passing stool or urinating. I have not used any medications.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

A simple ovarian cyst usually does not cause pain unless it becomes large. That is why I would like you to get an ultrasound to check the exact size. The symptoms you described, such as severe period pain and pain during intercourse, are more commonly seen with endometriotic cysts rather than simple cysts.

You have also not mentioned the current size of the cyst. As it has been a year since then, it is necessary to repeat the ultrasound examination and find out whether there is any growth of the cyst. Cysts that are large enough can occasionally develop the problem of twisting around itself; this situation is called torsion, and it is associated with acute and sharp pain.

I hope this helps.

Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.

Thank you.
