Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My 72-year-old father recently discovered a bump near his anus, and his doctor suspects it might be anal cancer. We are terrified and confused. I have heard anal cancer is often linked to HPV, but is not that typically associated with younger people? What are the risk factors for anal cancer in older adults? How is it diagnosed and staged? What treatment options are available, and how effective are they for someone his age? Are there any lifestyle changes or preventive measures he should consider? How can we best support him emotionally through this process? What questions should we ask the doctor to ensure we're fully informed about his condition and prognosis?
Thanks.
