Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 23 years old and weigh 171.9 lbs. I am having pain during sex, which started when I started having sex. I am not on any medication.
Please suggest.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Pain during sex, also known as dyspareunia, is quite common and can have several possible causes, especially if it started when you first began having sex.
Since you have had this pain from the beginning, it may be related to insufficient lubrication, vaginal tightness or muscle tension (sometimes linked to anxiety or fear), or a condition called vaginismus, where the vaginal muscles involuntarily tighten during penetration.
Other possible causes include vaginal infections, inflammation, or skin conditions that make the area sensitive.
If you experience burning, itching, or unusual discharge, an infection such as a yeast infection, bacterial vaginosis, or sexually transmitted infection could be contributing to the pain.
Using a water-based lubricant, taking more time for foreplay, and ensuring you feel relaxed and comfortable can help reduce pain. However, since this has been ongoing, it is very important to see a gynecologist for a proper pelvic exam.
The doctor can check for infections, hormonal issues, or structural conditions like endometriosis or pelvic inflammatory disease, and may suggest tests or treatments to relieve your discomfort.
You should not continue to have painful sex, as it can worsen anxiety and physical tension over time. Getting evaluated will help identify the cause and make sex more comfortable and healthy for you.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
