Is long-term Pantocid-IT use safe?
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 35-year-old male. My height is five feet and eight inches, and I weigh 194.007 pounds.
I have been suffering from Acid reflux GERD for the past five to six years and have been taking Pantocid-IT combination tablets for five years now (one tablet per day).I cannot stop the tablets due to recurring symptoms.
-
Is it okay to continue using the tablet Pantocid-IT for many years?
-
Does it have any side effects?
-
Do I need to switch to any other tablets?
I heard the kidney may get affected if it continues for multiple years.
Please advise.
Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
Yes, you can continue to take the Pantocid-IT tab as you are taking now. The PPI (proton pump inhibitor) group of drugs is very safe. Many people have taken these drugs for more than 15 years without any problems. The major side effects are hypocalcemia and osteoporosis and the risk of increased gastrointestinal infections.
I hope I have answered your queries. If you have more queries, do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for your answer.
-
If I can control my acidity using food restriction, then can I take Pantocid-IT whenever needed instead of regular once per day?
-
Also, is there any other tablet combination I need to watch out for when taking Pantocid IT?
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
It may be possible to discontinue the medicines and control acidity with only dietary restrictions. But for this, you need to be followed up by a good doctor. There is a protocol for this. If you stop medicines suddenly, the acidity will come back.
I hope I have answered your queries. If you have more queries, do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you.
Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
