Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My son is 4 years and 9 months old. Due to his naughty act, my uncle got angry with him and pressed his head hard. He cried for about one minute and then became normal after consolidation. Now it is about two hours, he is playing normally and behaving as before. Is there any chance of any serious internal injury due to this? For how long should my son be observed to be confirmed that he is completely safe from any such injury? Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
According to your description, there has not been a history of direct head trauma with a hard object to your son's head. If it is correct, then it is good, but it does not guarantee that there is no injury. Because rapid or forceful shaking induces a tear force that might cause some injury to the brain tissue or neck structures. Although such injuries are usually very small in size, they are regarded as insults, by the way. At present, you need to observe your son for at least eight hours for any sign of significant behavioral change, confusion, dizziness, abnormal balance, headache, neck pain, neck stiffness, nausea or vomiting, and blurred vision. Moreover, it is necessary to request him to rest and not conduct action plays, rapid running, or overdoing things for the same period. If you feel that you can not check the mentioned evaluation by yourself, seek medical attention from a physician to examine your son. If you see any of the suspicious signs, seek urgent medical attention at once.
I hope this information will help you.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
It is almost 14 hours now, and he has not shown any of the described symptoms. Is he completely safe now, or should he be observed for more time? Is there any fear of any internal injury due to this, which can manifest later after one week or more? Can there be a chance of aneurysm? Can an aneurysm remain silent for many years without symptoms? Kindly suggest.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com,
I can understand your concern.
Although in medicine, we cannot say anything with 100 % accuracy, as your son has not shown any warning signs or symptoms, the odds of injury are very low and negligible.
In response to your question about aneurysm, rest assured that such minor trauma does not cause aneurysm formation.
I hope this information will help you.
Thank you.
