What does a healthy penis look like?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have multiple queries about the health of my son. He is not very modest at home and never wears any clothes when in our home, so I have seen him naked very often throughout his life. However, I have seen barely any growth to his penis at all since he was a small pre-pubescent child, although pubic hair has been present for over two years. Is this a concern? I am also concerned about the health of his penis and I think he may also be overweight.

  1. Do you think I should allow him to walk around the house with his penis out?
  2. Do you think his penis looks healthy?
  3. Do you think his penis looks a healthy size (or do you think he has micropenis)?
  4. Do you think he is overweight?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

There are two concerns concerning your child's condition.

  1. Endocrine issues.
  2. Behavioral issues.

We need to evaluate in detail with blood tests and a thorough physical examination of your child to see whether these issues are interrelated or independent and further decide on an individual treatment approach.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

He does not have any behavioral issues to my knowledge. He is just confident and likes to relax at home, and we as his parents have allowed it. I was just wondering if we should continue to allow it or stop it now that puberty has begun. However, does his penis look healthy?

Answered by Dr. Prasanna

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You should try to stop this behavior by giving appropriate behavior therapy. If possible try to measure the length of the penis in the resting state and erectile state to comment on his penis.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
