Can termite fumigation be done during pregnancy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I sprayed a small amount of termite repellent with the active ingredients Permethrin, Propiconazole, and Tebuconazole on a window pane in a room where my wife, who is about a few weeks pregnant, slept for the next few hours. I am scared that the vapors were in the air as my pregnant wife slept. Should I be worried? What can I do?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

Fumigation, especially for insects, is too dangerous for humans and especially small kids and pregnant ladies. All drugs producing smell and fumes can be harmful and can easily be inhaled and cause respiratory disturbances. So, I suggest you check all the qualities mentioned below, if they were present.

1. Termite repellents are of different types. Some of them do not give a smell or fumes nor cause any disturbance to the respiratory system.

2. After the spray, what symptoms you observed in your wife?

3. Early pregnancy is a very crucial period. So, I advise you to stay away from all these drugs for the whole pregnancy.

4. If she had symptoms, then I suggest you give some respiratory nebulizers to her.

5. I suggest you do a double marker test followed by an anomaly test.

6. Try to keep a safe, clean, and fresh environment for her and give healthy, nutritious food to her.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.
