Patient's Query

Hi, Doctor,

I have started noticing small, round brown spots on the sides of my ribs and across my back. Occasionally, they feel itchy. I am concerned and wondering what this could be.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

It sounds like you may be experiencing Pityriasis versicolor, a fungal skin infection caused by a yeast called Malassezia, which is normally found on healthy skin but can overgrow under certain conditions. It appears as small, round or oval patches that may be lighter or darker than your normal skin tone. Often appear brown, pink, white, or reddish. This can be triggered by factors such as excessive sweating, Malassezia furfur infection, wearing tight or occlusive clothing, not drying the skin properly after bathing, or general hygiene issues.

To help improve your skin condition, I recommend the following treatment options:

  1. Apply Ketoconazole 2 percent lotion to the affected areas 20 minutes before bathing daily for 20 days.

  2. Take one dose of tablet AF (Fluconazole) 400 mg, as a single stat dose.

  3. Use Candid TV (Ketoconazole) soap during your bath for one month to maintain skin health.

  4. Try to avoid excessive sweating and wear breathable clothing.

  5. Keep the skin clean and dry, especially after bathing.

  6. Avoid scratching or rubbing the affected patches, even if they itch.

If you are experiencing itching, please let me know so I can adjust the treatment if needed.

Kindly follow up with me after one month to assess your progress.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
