What causes morning vaginal bleeding not related to periods?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

What should be the cause of my bleeding every morning? The blood looks red, and there is a lot. It is not my period date yet, and blood can fill the panty liner. It has been three days; every morning, after I wash, it goes away.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern.

We hope you are doing well. Bleeding outside of your regular menstrual period can be concerning.

Potential causes are as follows:

  1. Hormonal imbalance: Hormonal fluctuations can cause irregular bleeding.

  2. Infection or inflammation: Infections or inflammation in the reproductive tract can cause bleeding.

  3. Polyps or fibroids: Growths in the uterus or cervix can cause irregular bleeding.

  4. Other medical conditions: Certain medical conditions, such as thyroid disorders or bleeding disorders, can also cause irregular bleeding.

I suggest you take these steps next:

  1. Consult a healthcare provider: It is essential to discuss your symptoms with a healthcare provider to determine the cause of the bleeding.

  2. Pelvic exam and testing: A pelvic exam, ultrasound, or other tests may be necessary to determine the cause of the bleeding.

I suggest you undergo the following laboratory investigations:

  1. Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH): Measures the level of thyroid-stimulating hormone in the blood.

  2. Free triiodothyronine (FT3): Measures the level of free triiodothyronine in the blood.

  3. Free thyroxine (FT4): Measures the level of free thyroxine in the blood.

  4. Complete blood count (CBC): Measures the levels of various blood components, including red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.

  5. Prothrombin time (PT): Measures the time it takes for blood to clot.

  6. Partial thromboplastin time (PTT): Measures the time it takes for blood to clot, focusing on the intrinsic pathway.

I hope this helps.

Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
