Is excessive precum during sexual arousal normal?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am facing issues of excessive precum liquid coming out from my penis whenever I think of sex, during intimacy or while watching porn. This is from the last 12 to 13 years.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you so much for sharing your query with me.

The presence of pre-ejaculatory fluid during sexual thoughts, arousal, intimacy, or while watching pornography is a normal physiological response. This fluid is produced to help lubricate the urethra before ejaculation. Some men naturally produce very small amounts, while others notice a much larger quantity.

The fact that this has been occurring consistently for 12 to 13 years, but

  1. Without pain.

  2. Burning.

  3. Blood.

  4. Urinary symptoms or other changes.

All these are good signs and are less likely to have a serious underlying disease.

What is more important is whether the amount has recently increased, causes discomfort, or is occurring even in the absence of sexual arousal.

From your description, the discharge seems clearly linked to sexual stimulation, which is generally considered normal rather than a medical problem requiring treatment. Excessive focus on the discharge can sometimes make it seem more concerning than it actually is.

  1. Approximately how much fluid are you noticing?

  2. Just a few drops, or enough to visibly wet your underwear during arousal?

I hope it helped with the query.

Please let me know if you have any more questions on your mind.

I would be happy to guide you.

Thank you.
