What causes irregular period following protected sex?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I turned 21 last week. I want to consult regarding my menstrual cycle because it is already irregular. My last menstruation was in the second week of last month, and now I am already two days late. I had intercourse two months back in the last week, and we used a condom. Is the irregularity normal? Usually, I have a 33 to 44-day cycle. Now, I feel dry down there. Is it that there is no cervical mucus? I have no other symptoms like tender breasts or cramps, which usually occur before my period. Is it a sign that my period will not come? What should I do?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I am here to give you the best medical advice.

I believe that you have developed a hormonal imbalance that has caused irregular menses and other symptoms that you are experiencing. Do you have any history of vaginal discharge, usage of contraceptive pills in the past, breast discharge, headache, or past stressful events? I suggest you do a hormone profile test and follow up with the result. You will get your period, but meanwhile, I suggest you take the following medicines:

  1. Tablet Medroxyprogesterone 10 mg to be taken orally every.

  2. Tablet Norethisterone 5 mg to be taken orally.

  3. Tablet Clomiphene 50 mg to be taken orally every day.

I hope this helps.

Do get back in case of any further queries.

Thank you.
