Proximal Subungual Onychomycosis

Proximal subungual onychomycosis is a fungal infection that develops in the proximal nail fold. It is most commonly caused by a fungus called Trichophyton rubrum and is mostly seen in AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) patients. It causes discoloration under the proximal nail plate. Terbinafine, Fluconazole, and Itraconazole are used to treat this condition.
