What are the ways to overcome PVC?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 23-year-old college student. My PVC is causing me concern. I get them every time I work out, only during recovery time. I underwent two echocardiograms in the last year, both of which revealed a clinically minor mitral prolapse. I had two stress tests, one of which revealed just one late PVC, not R on T, in the first two minutes of recovery. I also have two 48-hour holters that showed 5 and 6 PVCs (the first Holter showed a couplet, the second 5 single polymorphic PVCs). I am very concerned about the issue. I am always anxious that I will get a PVC unexpectedly, and it is ruining the quality of my life. Is there anything else I could do to help with my exams? What do you think I am putting myself through in this situation? I also read papers suggesting that PVC during recovery (even just one) is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular death. I am quite concerned.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Searching for symptoms will make you anxious. In most circumstances, PVCs (premature ventricular contractions) are not dangerous. In healthy people, a few hundred PVCs are usual. Anxiety, excessive coffee, and some medications all enhance PVCs. There are a few elements to consider when determining if PVCs are harmful. Please tell me the following.

1. Are you familiar with ischemic or structural heart disease?

2. Do you have a family history of syncope or sudden death, or do you have a recognized arrhythmia?

3. Have you ever experienced syncope?

4. What are your symptoms?

Thank you
