Ringer’s lactate or the lactated ringer’s solution is an intravenous fluid that is given to a patient if he or she is dehydrated. This solution is a mixture of sodium chloride, sodium lactate, calcium chloride, and potassium chloride in water. This solution is used to replace the lost electrolytes and fluids in persons who have low blood volume or low blood pressure. It is also called sodium lactate solution or Hartmann's solution.
