Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

  1. We needed Pediatrician advice on how to take a baby to the doctor's appointments.
  2. Looking for tips on taking your baby to doctor's appointments and staying sane? (appointments for the baby and also for the mom).
  3. When to make the appointment based on feedings and naps?
  4. How do you keep a baby occupied in the car seat or stroller while you have an appointment?
  5. What to do if your baby unravels and cannot stop crying?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

When there is an appointment for mom and baby, ensure you finish the baby's appointment first, as a mom can wait. Also, opt for doctors who are present for longer hours.

It is difficult to keep up the appointment time because of feeding and naps. Naps are still alright because you can carry your baby while asleep, and the doctor can examine a sleeping baby. You can take 2 slots instead of one so there can be a margin time in case the baby demands feed.

Baby can be kept occupied by giving a pacifier or toy appropriate for the age in the stroller or car seat to some extent. Also, soothing music may help by putting the baby to sleep. It is always better if both parents accompany so one can take care of the baby.

During an appointment, both parents or two people should accompany so that one can take care of or take the baby out if the baby is crying continuously so that the dr can converse with the mother regarding the baby's issues. After that, the baby can be brought in, and the pediatrician can examine the baby. Pediatricians are trained to examine a crying baby. Taking the baby out of the room can also calm the baby to some extent while the pediatrician discusses the baby's details with the mom.

Thank you.
