Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 24-year-old male. I had a root canal on my molar ten years ago. It never hurt, and I still have no tooth pain, but a black hole opened up on my tooth. I am afraid I will get an infection, and the disease could be fatal. Would the risk be worse if I did get a root canal or not? Would tooth extraction is worse or riskier? I do not smoke. Still, I have a history of poor dental hygiene and extensive dental surgeries as a kid. The main reason I avoided root canals was because I was afraid of the procedure. Now my insurance no longer covers me as an adult, and again, my tooth has never hurt. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

As you mentioned the situation and as there is a black hole in the tooth, I suggest you visit a dentist and get an X-ray done to know about a treatment plan. There is no pain, but it does not mean there is no need for a root canal. It may have already damaged the tooth, and the lesion has stopped. And now, if it does not pain, you still need a root canal if the dentist suggests it. This will save your teeth and will maintain the structure of it. Maintain oral hygiene properly to protect other teeth and make them beautiful. Develop a habit of caring for your mouth, an essential part of your face.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.
