Can using salicylic acid face wash excessively cause any trouble?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have normal skin, but due to a lack of knowledge, I have used 2 % salicylic acid face wash only once. I took more quantity in my hand when I opened the bottle accidentally, and without second thoughts, I used it to wash my face. It made me a little dry, but I am worried that this effect may last permanently and worried about any damage it may cause. Does it cause any aging effect? What to do if it does?

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I do understand your concern.

No need to worry. I suggest the following measures:

  1. Wash your face with gentle cleansers twice daily in the morning and evening for two weeks.

  2. Apply water-based or ceramide-based moisturizer after cleansing. Avoid skin products that sting or burn on application.

  3. Eat a diet rich in antioxidants, zinc, vitamins, and omega-3 fatty acids.

  4. Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water.

  5. Avoid stress.

  6. Protect your skin from the harmful UV (ultraviolet) rays of the sun. Use broad-spectrum sunscreen.

  7. Apply photostable sunscreen 30 minutes before going outdoors in the sun.

  8. Use necessary sun protection measures. Wear broad-brimmed hats. Use suncoat.

  9. Tablet vitamin C 500 mg once a day after breakfast for 30 days.

I hope this information helps you.

Revert in case of queries.

Regards.
