Is SARS deadlier than COVID-19?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My wife got her COVID shot three months back (Pfizer second dose). Now she has the flu, which we got tested thinking it is COVID, but strangely it is SARS.

Is it deadlier than COVID?

What is the treatment?

Is COVID vaccine ineffective against this?

Answered by Dr. J. N. Naidu

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Vaccines are helpful, and please understand that the epidemic was controlled with the help of vaccines. But it is not 100 % effective in preventing infection. On the other hand, vaccines decrease mortality and morbidity. SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) is not deadly in healthy people but can be severe in immunocompromised patients.

Treatment is mainly symptomatic and suggest the following:

  1. Gargle mouth with warm saline water regularly at night for two weeks.
  2. Brush teeth regularly at night and discard brush after two weeks.
