Hello doctor,

I have poor self-esteem and prefer to live alone. Most of the time, I feel quite unhappy and miserable. I feel worthless. I believe that all of my professors and students hate me. As a result, I am unable to concentrate on my studies, and my grades have dropped significantly.

Also, I suggest doing a screening test like Zung’s self-rating depression scale, which you can easily find online.

Some of the lifestyle changes that can help you are:

  1. Meditation helps a lot; meditate daily for at least half an hour in the morning.

  2. Give at least one hour daily for your hobbies, playing a sport is good. Listening to music also helps.

  3. Talk with your family members and close friends. Sharing and expressing your problems helps a lot.

  4. Remember, every problem has a solution; you just need to find it. And help is always just a step away.

Do consult a psychiatrist or clinical psychologist if the problem persists.

Once the discomfort subsides, activities such as swimming, yoga, and walking can be beneficial. However, jogging and weightlifting may exacerbate back issues. Choose exercises that support back health and avoid those that strain or worsen the condition.
