Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am considering starting compounded Semaglutide because my doctor said it could be an alternative to brand-name versions. However, I have read online that compounded medications are not FDA-approved the same way as commercial drugs. How can I be sure that I am getting pure and adequately dosed medication? Are there risks of contamination or inconsistent potency? I have also heard that some pharmacies might mix it with other ingredients. How do I know if what I am getting is safe and effective? Has anyone been on compounded Semaglutide for months and had good long-term results without issues? I do not want to take something unreliable.
Please advise.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read your query and can understand your concern.
Compounded Semaglutide is not FDA (Food and Drug Administration)-approved, could come with risks, and may lead to adverse effects. It is unclear how safe or effective these products are. It is important to get a prescription for Semaglutide and only get medications from a state-licensed pharmacy or FDA-registered facility.
Without FDA regulation, these formulations can include improper amounts of the active ingredient or harmful impurities. This lack of precision can lead to significant health risks, ranging from mild discomfort to life-altering complications. Poor compounding practices can result in serious drug quality issues, including contamination or a drug product containing too much or too little of an active ingredient, with the potential for causing serious patient injury or death.
In several instances, patients using a multi-dose vial and syringe have mistakenly administered five to 20 times more than the intended dose of compounded “Semaglutide”.
Hope this answers your question.
Thank you.
