Will I regain weight if I discontinue compounded Semaglutide?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been using compounded Semaglutide for weight loss for four months now. I just saw an FDA warning about my specific compounding pharmacy. They are being investigated for potency issues and contamination concerns. The FDA advised discontinuing use immediately. I have lost 36 pounds and felt okay, except for the usual nausea and digestive problems. Now, I am terrified I have been injecting a dangerous substance. Should I get tested for contamination? If so, what tests should I get? If I stop suddenly, will I experience withdrawal? Will I regain all the weight immediately? I tried calling the pharmacy, but they have closed. Will any doctor prescribe legitimate GLP-1 with my BMI of 32? I am feeling panicked about what to do next.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I am sorry to hear about this situation. It is crucial to stop using the compounded Semaglutide immediately, as advised by the U.S. (United States) Food and Drug Administration (FDA). You should consult your healthcare provider to discuss potential contamination testing, which may include blood tests and liver function tests. Sudden discontinuation might not cause withdrawal, but you may experience a return of appetite and weight gain. A legitimate glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) medication can be prescribed by your doctor, given your body mass index (BMI) and medical history.

I hope this helps.

Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.

Thank you.
