Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My rosacea is ruining my life, and I am considering trying compounded semaglutide after hearing it might help. I am 38, and my face constantly looks inflamed with these painful bumps that do not respond to regular treatments. I noticed that my rosacea gets much worse after carbohydrates and sugar, almost like there is a metabolic connection. I heard that semaglutide can reduce inflammation besides helping with weight. My cousin lost weight on it and said her skin improved too, but her doctor will not prescribe it for me since I am not technically obese. I found a compounding pharmacy that makes it, but I am worried about safety. Current rosacea medications (doxycycline and metronidazole cream) barely help anymore. Can this medication improve rosacea, or am I risking serious side effects?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to iCliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
While semaglutide is primarily used for weight loss and diabetes management, there is limited evidence on its direct effect on rosacea. Some patients have reported improvements in skin conditions, possibly due to reduced inflammation and better metabolic control.
However, using compounded semaglutide from online pharmacies can be risky. These formulations may not have the same quality control as Food and Drug Administration-approved medications, leading to potential safety concerns like contamination or incorrect dosing.
It is essential to consult with a dermatologist or endocrinologist before trying new treatments. They can provide guidance on safe and effective options for managing rosacea and metabolic health. Please book a consultation with me if you would like more detailed information on any of these points, or if you have other questions.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
Thank you.
