What are the possible causes of low sexual desire?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 26-year-old female, and I weigh 114 pounds. With my husband, I feel no desire to have sex. In short, my husband is not satisfied with me. What do I do about this problem? My husband wants to have sex with me, but I have very low sexual desires.
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Low libido has many reasons:
1. Infections – It can be due to a urine infection (can do a urine complete and ultrasound of the pelvis) to diagnose the cause.
2. Diabetes and hypertension – Ensure blood pressure and blood sugar are controlled. If you are already on medication, share the medication name.
3. Hormonal disturbances - Low testosterone, low levels of thyroid, and high levels of prolactin. Check for TFT (thyroid function test), prolactin, and testosterone.
4. Obesity - Plan for regular exercise and yoga.
5. High cholesterol – Check for lipid profile and plan for regular exercise.
6. Chronic disease or on any chronic medication – Please share details.
7. Anxiety can also cause libido issues.
I suggest you do a USG (ultrasonography) pelvis to rule out pelvis infection, a thyroid check-up to estimate free T3 (triiodothyronine), T4 (thyroxine), TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone), lipid profile to know cholesterol level, blood pressure, and RBS (random blood sugar). Kindly share more details regarding the above reason so that we can work on the cause and treatment. You can use tablet Mildfil (Tadalafil) 5 mg twice a day as a temporary solution. Questions you need to ask your partner frankly and with an open mindset. Do not grill him with these questions.
-
Pain during sex? Avoidance of sex stems from a painful sexual experience. Has it occurred to you or your partner during sex or sometime in the past?
-
If the partner was left unsatisfied in the sexual act before?
-
Are you afraid of getting pregnant?
-
Does he think of the sexual act as sinful, dirty, or immoral?
-
Does he disapprove of the kind of sexual behavior that is expected of him?
-
Does he have unresolved emotional issues with you?
Let the answers emerge organically in the course of an open-minded discussion. Seek out relationship counseling if you are unsure how to approach the subject.
I hope this information helps you.
