What can cause loss of libido in a male?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a male and just started having sex with my wife and when I am inside her I feel nothing. I feel no pleasure and no sensation. This has been an issue for four days now and I have had sex 10 times in those four days. I also feel nothing when she tries to pleasure me with her mouth or hand. I have never experienced this in the past. I am currently taking a tablet, Carbamazepine (Curtail).

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.Low Libido has the following reasons:

  1. Infections - This can be due to a urine infection (can do urine complete and ultrasound of the pelvis) to diagnose the cause.

  2. Diabetes, or hypertension - Make sure that your blood pressure and blood sugar are under control. Already on medication, share medication name?

  3. Hormonal disturbances - Low testosterone, low levels of thyroid, high levels of prolactin and check for TFT (testosterone replacement therapy), Prolactin, testosterone.

  4. Obesity - Plan for regular exercise and yoga.

  5. High cholesterol – Check for lipid profile and plan for regular exercise.

  6. Chronic disease or on any chronic medication - Please share details.

Anxiety can also cause libido issues. Need to do the following: Consult your specialist doctors, discuss and take the tests and medicines with their consent.

  1. USG (ultrasound) pelvis to rule out pelvis infection, thyroid check-up for free T3 T4 TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone), lipid profile to know cholesterol levels, blood pressure, RBS (random blood sugar) test.

  2. Can use the tablet Mildfil (PDE5 inhibitors) 5 milligrams twice a day as a temporary solution.

Kindly Share more details regarding the above reason, so we can work on the cause and treatment. Carbamazepine can be one of the reasons for the low libido.

I hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.
