Patient's Query
Hello Doctor,
My period usually lasts seven days, but this time it only lasted three days. I am worried it might be implantation bleeding. It started as brown, then turned to bright red with clots. When I pee, my urine looks red, probably because period blood is mixing with it. Is this normal, or could it be implantation bleeding? On the second day, I filled my pads like I normally do during my period, so I am very scared. Please tell me if this could be implemented or not.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
First of all, there are clear differences between implantation bleeding and a regular period. Based on what you described, it sounds more like a normal period, just shorter than usual. You said it started brown and then turned bright red, which is common in a regular period. You had clots in implantation bleeding usually does not have clots. You filled pads on the second day. This also suggests a regular period, not implantation. Even though it only lasted three days instead of your usual seven, that can still be considered a normal period for some people.
Other possible reasons for a shorter period
A shorter period can happen due to:
Stress.
Hormonal changes (like thyroid issues, polycystic ovarian disease, or weight changes).
Illness.
Perimenopause (depending on your age).
Changes in your diet, exercise, or sleep.
If your urine looks red during your period, it is usually because menstrual blood is mixing with it. This is normal if you're bleeding heavily. But it could be a concern if:
You see red urine when you are not on your period.
You have burning, pain, or a strong odor (which could be a sign of a urinary tract infection or other issue).
This does not sound like implantation bleeding. It sounds like a shorter-than-usual period, especially because of the clots and heavy flow on day two.
If you are comfortable, you can share:
Your height and weight (to understand any hormonal factors).
The last time you had unprotected sex.
Whether you use birth control or have recently started or stopped any medication or supplements.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
Thank you.
