Patient's Query

Hello, doctor.

The only abnormality in my anomaly scan was a newborn with a single umbilical artery. Could you please assist me in addressing my questions here? Do babies born with a single umbilical artery develop normally? Will there be any problems with the baby's health in the future? Kindly help.

Answered by Dr. Khushbu

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

A single umbilical artery may be isolated without being connected with additional disorders, and around 70-80% of kids with a single umbilical artery will have a healthy life in the future. It has been linked to intrauterine growth limits during pregnancy. So I recommend watching for weight increase based on gestational age.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

During my third month, I underwent a Down syndrome test, and the results were just negative. Except for the single umbilical artery, no further abnormalities were discovered in the 5th monthly examination. Will my baby be as healthy and live a regular life as other children? Do you have any food recommendations for me? Please assist.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

According to all studies and facts, we cannot be certain about the normal infant. However, the odds of being normal are high. You must monitor your baby's growth during pregnancy and after birth. In 80% of situations, it is normal.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.
