Can you help me with my skincare routine?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I need assistance with my skincare routine. I use a gentle foaming cleanser, which is an amino acid mousse, a serum that has vitamin C three times, niacinamide, and sodium hyaluronate. I have this, the Originote moisturizer, which is the Hyalucera moisturizer. This one is for the night. And lastly, the iWhite sleeping cream mask.
I do my skincare like this: cleanse-serum-moisturize-iWhite. Is it good?
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Thank you for sharing your skincare routine. I am glad you reached out. You are already doing many things right, and with a few small adjustments, your routine can work even better for your skin.
I will do a step-by-step review of your current routine as a dermatologist.
1) Your gentle amino acid foaming cleanser is an excellent first step, as it effectively cleanses the skin without stripping away natural oils, making it suitable for daily use and for most skin types, including sensitive and acne-prone skin
2)Following this with the serum is a smart choice because the combination of vitamin C, Niacinamide, and Sodium hyaluronate helps brighten the skin, improve texture, support the skin barrier, and provide hydration. Applying the serum on slightly damp skin and allowing it to absorb before the next step will maximise its benefits.
3)Using the Originote hyaluronic moisturizer at night is also appropriate, as it contains hydrating ingredients and Ceramides that help repair and strengthen the skin barrier while you sleep. However, the only part of your routine that needs modification is the iWhite sleeping cream mask.
Sleeping masks are designed to be treatment products and are not meant to be used every night on top of a regular moisturizer, as this can lead to clogged pores or breakouts. It is best to use the iWhite sleeping mask only two to three times a week as the final step of your night routine, and on those nights you should skip the moisturizer.
On the remaining nights, continue with cleanser, serum, and your hyaluronic acid moisturizer as usual.
One very important point to remember is sunscreen during the daytime. Since your serum contains vitamin C, using a broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning is essential to protect your skin from UV (ultraviolet) damage and to prevent pigmentation from worsening.
So please add a SPF (sun protection factor) 50 or plus sunscreen in the morning and afternoon after your serum.
Overall, your routine is gentle and effective. With consistent use, proper spacing of the sleeping mask, and daily sun protection, you will see healthy improvements in your skin’s glow, texture, and clarity over time.
I hope this information will help you.
Kindly follow up if you have any further concerns.
Thank you.
