Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am an 18-year-old and was a healthy boy, but a non-degree local doctor ruined my life. I was having problems during urination, so one of the local doctors told me to do a urine culture I did the urine culture showed bacteria staphylococcus infection with no pyuria. He gave me still antibiotics but via saline injections, for five days. Two to four injections of antibiotics in two salines every day. After the first saline only I had got a new problem in my life and it was constipation. I suffered from it for five to six days. Those infections did not improve my urination problem but gave rise to constipation. I went to him for a constipation problem and he again gave me one injection and one tablet and at night I was able to pass stool. It was good for six to seven days then again I suffered from constipation. I even had to strain to pass soft stools. So I again went to him and he gave me again injection and one tablet I took and now the next day I passed a little. The same happened for many two to three times and my problem persists.
After that, I consulted an Ayurvedic doctor who gave me some medicines that did not help as well. So, I took 40 ml of Castor oil, which made my stools watery two times within two hours. So, now I consulted an MD medicine who suggested some medications. After four days, I stopped taking the medications and was able to pass stools but with some strain. Now again I am constipated for the last four days again. I am eating well and going for a walk at night as well. Is this due to antibiotics as they reduced flora in my gut or is this IBS? Kindly suggest.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Therapy with antibiotics has caused the depletion of your intestinal flora. Our intestines contain bacteria, which are good for digestion. Toxins released by bacteria are responsible for the depletion of this good flora resulting in dysbiosis. Dysbiosis may be caused by such diverse things as repeated and inappropriate antibiotic exposure, alcohol misuse, or inappropriate diet. So correction depends on you as early as you correct the above-mentioned things good bacteria will grow back. Probiotics in yogurt stimulate healthy digestive function and help produce vitamins B12 and K. Strains of healthy bacteria added to yogurt and kefir includes Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Streptococcus thermophiles, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus casei, and Bifidus. A good place to start is two to four Oz of the kefir a day. This is for daily maintenance, and then working your way up to one cup daily. Take 18 ounces of yogurt a day. As probiotic does not suit you I suggest you add the following food to your regimen.
Thank you.
